Cagnacci
Guido Cagnacci
1601-1663
Guido Canlassi, called Cagnacci. Bolognese School. Born 1601; died 1681. Caravaggesque influence was apparently important in his early development. By the early 1640s he may have spent some time in the studio of Guido Reni, whose influence he obviously felt. But Reni's elegance and idealism tended to give way in Cagnacci's interpretation to a kind of morbid, languorous eroticism. Cagnacci was active in Venice for a number of years before he went, as court painter, to Vienna. There he remained from 1658 until his death.
